Today, you’re going to discover the range of airless spraying equipment we recommend for businesses and private individuals, with the following conditions of use.

These machines will be adapted for :

  1. SURFACES: medium and large surfaces (flats, houses, buildings, cellars, garages, car parks) of 500 m² or more
  2. FREQUENCY : common uses (weekly)
  3. MATERIALS: interior/exterior dispersion paints + Latex + Silicate + Emulsions + Epoxy paints + Silicone + Pliolite + Facade/roof/floor coatings + Glues + Fireproof products + Airless coatings (maximum viscosity approx.). Materials requiring nozzles between 517 and 563 at most, depending on the model of machine selected.

If that’s what you’re doing, or what you’re planning to do, then you’re probably looking at the models listed in this article.

BEWARE, this article is only a first approach to selecting your airless device. Each user and project is different.

Let’s take a look at the appliances from each brand that are most likely to meet these criteria.

Graco series

With Graco, the best compromise between quality and price for these needs will be the following 2 machines, which are now at the top end of the range of professional airless machines.

1. Graco Texspray Mark VII

This Graco airless sprayer is available in 3 versions: Standard, ProContractor and IronMan. It will also be the sprayer in this article with the lowest price in its standard version.

The Graco Mark VII will be the first airless machine recommended for the above-mentioned projects in interior/exterior paints and especially semi-thick and airless coatings, thanks to its endurance on site and its 6-litre power that can accept nozzles of up to 0.047″, i.e. 547 or 647 for example.

Its mechanical construction will be identical in substance to the models in the higher ranges, thanks to its flow management, the operation of its pump base and filtration down to the gun. Last but not least, this will be the last model to be released by Graco (since 2019).

The Graco Mark VII will accept 4 sizes of Graco filter with #30, #60, #100 and #200 mesh (always make sure you match the same filter size between the machine and the spray gun). Note, of course, that this model comes standard ready for coatings, like all the other models in this range).

Finally, the ProContractor version of this machine will feature Graco’s ProConnect (PC) generation of lower pump, making it easier to remove this part for cleaning or repair.

For use in paints, note that you’ll need 30m of hose in total, and you’ll find the following complete kit in the shop: Graco Dispersion Accessory Kit – 17Y051.

2. Graco Dutymax GH300 DI

Graco Dutymax GH300 DI PROCONTRACTOR – 24W968

Graco Dutymax GH300 DI PROCONTRACTOR – 24W968

This petrol-driven hydraulic piston airless pump will be more powerful and just as expensive as the Graco Mark VII.

It will also be available in 2 versions (Standard and ProContractor), and will be able to accept 4 primary filter sizes for better paint flow management (#30, #60, #100 and #200).

The Graco Dutymax GH300 DI, particularly the ProContractor version, is the airless sprayer for long hoses and large nozzles. The field of application will be, for example, the coating of silos or large exterior facades. Hose lengths of 75 m or even 90 m can be used. In this way, a mobile silo can be coated without having to reposition the unit once. Whether you’re working on facades, multi-storey car parks or other large sites, you can take advantage of the machine’s high transport capacity and easily spray paint at heights of 60 m or more.

Like the Mark versions, the Dutymax can also be used with coating containers, provided you have the right fitting, or with Graco’s 90-litre Hopper.

For paint spraying, as with the Mark VII, you’ll need a total of 30m of hose, and you’ll find the following complete kit in the shop: Graco dispersion accessory kit – 17Y051 (to be connected, as always, instead of the plaster spraying gun).

A very serious investment, then, to get started spraying airless coatings for worksites, particularly outdoors.

Technical features:

  • Motor: Honda GX270 ; 9,0 PS (can be converted without tools to a 380V; 5.5 kW electric motor, not included in delivery)
  • Maximum flow rate: 11,3 l/min
  • Maximum working pressure: 227 bar
  • Maximum nozzle size: 0.063″ (563)
  • Weight: 120 kg

Wagner series

As with Graco, the best compromise at Wagner is between a single-piston machine and a hydraulic machine. These 2 electric machines will also be found at the top end of the brand’s professional range.

1. Wagner ProSpray 3.39

This electric piston machine is the ProSpray 3.39. Easy to use and mounted on a trolley, it has a maximum flow rate of 5.0 l/min (max. nozzle 0.039″).

As standard, it has an LED display, a quick pump bottom change, an extended spraying gun and is still very versatile when you need to work with larger quantities, thanks to its hopper and spraying container connections. Last but not least, this model has been around for several years now and has proved its worth time and again.

The ProSpray 3.39 can accept 3 primary mesh filters: #30, #60 and #100. For spraying coatings, you can either remove the filter alone or replace it with the 558668 cap.

The Wagner PS 3.39 will be highly appreciated for its versatility between plastering and painting. In fact, it will be one of the few airless pumps of any brand to be able to easily connect a DN6 hose (15m) and paint spray gun directly to the pump outlet, thanks to its technological feature that does not require it to have 30m of hose.

To equip it quickly with paint, you’ll need the following 2 items: Wagner 1/2″ x 1/4″ connector – 2325929 + Wagner HEA dispersion accessory kit – 2408212.

Technical features :

  • Voltage: 230 V / 50 Hz
  • Motor power: 2,19 kW
  • Maximum flow rate: 5,0 l/min
  • Maximum working pressure: 230 bar
  • Maximum nozzle size: 0.039″ (539)
  • Weight: 50 kg

2. Wagner HeavyCoat 950 E SSP

The HeavyCoat 950 E SSP airless coating sprayer from Wagner is an electrically controlled hydraulic piston pump for applications over 500 m². The airless sprayer offers a flow rate of 6.6 litres at a maximum pressure of 250 bar, making it particularly suitable for spraying interior/exterior dispersion paints and many coatings of different viscosities, for medium and large projects, such as home renovation and new builds.

This hydraulic piston pump can be used for spraying primers, dispersion paints, latexes, flame retardants, facade paints, roofing materials, floor coverings, glass cloth adhesives and airless coating applications, for example.

It will accept 4 primary filter sizes for improved filtration and flow management (#0, #5, #50 & #100). The #0 is the minimum required when using this machine for coating, for example, as it is a metal cage with a ball inside for optimum circulation of the flow at the pump outlet.

Finally, the SSP suction system specific to the HeavyCoat series at Wagner offers an additional advantage, when transporting thick materials such as very generally plasters, so as to avoid clogging on worksites.

Techniques features:

  • Voltage: 230 V / 50 Hz
  • Motor power: 3,6 kW
  • Maximum flow rate: 6,6 l/min
  • Maximum pressure: 250 bar
  • Maximum nozzle size: 0,052″ (552)
  • Weight: 84 kg

Blog post about 90L Wagner hopper

Mainly for wall coating + roof, facade & floor coatings

If your current and future projects involve spraying plaster/roof and facade coatings as 90% of your activity, we would recommend that you stick with a machine that has options to support you properly, such as Graco’s ProContractor versions.

Given its current purchase price, compact design and options such as the rear hose reel, we’re partial to the Graco MARK VII MAX PROCONTRACTOR. Its operation and power of 6 litres/min will give you full satisfaction on many different sites when spraying semi-thick and thick materials.

Advantages of ProContractor for spraying coatings and roofing with several metres of hose:

  • Quickreel hose reel at the rear for easy unfolding and storage of longer or shorter hoses
  • Reinforced Vortex Endurance pump base (longer life between jobs)
  • LED display with precise indication + additional information (litre counter, error codes, etc.)
  • ProGuard option to protect against overvoltage and undervoltage
  • WatchDog option to protect the pump from running dry
  • ProConnect2 quick-change lower pump system
  • FastFlush 2 option for rapid cleaning

The choice of paint/coat versatility

When it comes to the choice of versatility between spraying coatings and paints (50/50), we would ideally recommend that you opt for a Wagner ProSpray 3.39 electric. This airless model will provide greater comfort when changing parts and accessories to paint. As explained above, this is one of the few airless models (along with the HC 950) that can accept a paint hose at the filter housing outlet if fitted with the right connector; something that is not possible or recommended on the Mark and DutyMax Graco machines, for example. The priming path is shorter (normally 15m), which means that the machine can be used with slightly smaller quantities of paint (20 litres) instead of the minimum 30 litres or more required for the spraying action to be effective.

Finally, the cost of parts for repairs is sometimes a little lower with the Wagner PS 3.39 than with other models in this category.

As a result, it’s a great asset for tradesmen, self-employed contractors and building professionals who need to work regularly on painting and plastering, in flats as well as houses and buildings, and therefore with more or less traditional quantities of products to spray.

For very frequent use on large sites of 1,000 m² or more, it’s best to opt for Graco Dutymax GH300 DI & Wagner HeavyCoat 950 E SSP hydraulic machines or higher.

Finally, this is a case where other spraying machines will often be more ergonomic and suitable for spraying airless coatings only.

We invite you to visit our blog and shop articles on the Graco T-MAX and APX series.
We’ll start with the T-MAX 657 or 6912 depending on your needs, as well as the APX 8200; 3 machines whose reputation for endurance, application quality and ease of use is second to none!

Finally, the T-MAX series is renowned for the longevity of its parts and the low cost of repairs and maintenance.
