In this video, we compare the pressure control of the new Graco XT models with previous models of Graco airless machines. Graco calls the new pressure control RapidResponse Control and promises significantly lower pressure fluctuations than previous Graco models or models from other manufacturers on the market.

Pressure control comparison – Old versus new

For comparison, we’re using the previous model, the old Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro, and testing the new Graco Ultra 495 XT. Interior wall paint is sprayed at 120 bar using a Graco LP 517 nozzle. We then pull the trigger on the airless gun to check the pressure drop. Although a digital pressure gauge shows the pressure on the display, we also fitted an analogue pressure gauge to the Graco ST MAX II 495 PC because we noticed minor measurement inaccuracies on the digital gauge. We did the same with the Graco Ultra 495 XT, but we didn’t notice any measurement inaccuracies here.

Test with the old Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro

The old comes before the new, so we start with the old Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro. We set the pressure at 120 bar and start spraying. You can see the pressure drop from 120 bar to less than 100 bar. So there’s a difference of more than 20 bar between the dynamic pressure and the spraying pressure.

We also set the pressure to 120 bar with the new Graco Ultra 495 XT, and then started work. When we switch from dynamic pressure to spraying pressure, the pressure only drops by 3 bar.

Summary of tests

In the comparison test between the previous model, the Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro and the new Graco Ultra 495 XT, a clear difference in pressure control was noticeable. On the old model, the difference between dynamic pressure and spraying pressure was around 20 bar, while on the new Ultra 495 XT it was just 3 bar. The effect of the new RapidResponse Control pressure control is clearly visible, reducing pressure fluctuations from over 20 bar to 3 bar.

Benefits of RapidResponse Control

But what are the benefits of this improved pressure control? If you spray with more pressure, more paint will be pushed through the nozzle. As a result, more product penetrates the surface. If you spray with less pressure, less paint is pushed through the nozzle and less material ends up on the surface. Large fluctuations in pressure in the airless can lead to more uneven spraying and paint application on the same surface, as sometimes more or less paint is sprayed. The new RapidResponse pressure control provides a more uniform spray pattern, a more uniform paint application and therefore a more uniform, better quality surface.

More precise pressure setting with the Ultra 495 XT

During the test, we found that the pressure setting on the new Ultra XT models also works much more precisely than on previous models. In low-pressure mode, the pressure can be set precisely to the bar. In the previous model of Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro or in other models on the market, this control is less precise.

Improved pressure control allows the desired pressure to be set precisely, creating optimum working conditions. Optimum pressure adjustment is a prerequisite for obtaining a high-quality spray jet and avoiding paint mist.
