What accessories are needed to spray paint, primer or glue with the Graco Mark VII? The manufacturer Graco supplies the Mark VII models (e.g. Graco Mark VII XT ProContractor or Graco Mark VII XT Standard) with accessories for spraying plaster. It is therefore necessary to purchase other accessories for the airless application of primer, paint for interior walls and facades, tissue adhesive or any other fine product requiring the use of filters in the circuit.

In the following article, we give you an overview of the accessories you can use to complete your Graco Mark VII XT.

Recommended accessories for paint spraying

If you want to spray wall paint, facade paint, roof coating, primer or glue with a Graco Mark VII XT, we recommend you purchase the following accessories.

1. Hose/gun assembly

2. Main filter

Spraying coatings does NOT require a main filter or gun filter. When spraying paint, main filters, often with #60 mesh, must be used. In addition to Graco’s original filters, there are cheaper alternatives (#60). Also, when spraying paint, a suction strainer must be fitted to filter out coarse impurities as they are sucked into the machine.

3. Gun filter

The hose/gun kit already includes a gun filter for painting walls and facades. To avoid interruptions to work due to faulty or missing gun filters, we recommend that you also order a few gun filters as replacements. Both the original Graco and an alternative are available.

4. Other nozzles

The hose and gun kit already comes with a Graco LP nozzle size 517, which is well suited to many indoor dispersion paints. However, depending on the material to be sprayed, larger nozzles or other types of nozzle may also be required. To find out more about nozzle selection, we recommend the following video.

5.1. Cleaning brushes

The filter housing, suction tube and spray gun can be cleaned quickly and easily using the appropriate brushes. To do this, we’ve had brushes made to the right dimensions. So cleaning is quick and easy.

5.2. Nozzle cleaner – Hourglass

Nozzle cleaner prevents paint residues from drying out in and around the nozzle. This extends nozzle life and prevents unwanted downtime due to missing or non-functional nozzles.

5.3. Preserving agent

The preservative is sucked into the airless device after cleaning. In the event of prolonged downtime and work breaks, the preservative prevents corrosion as well as adhesion and sticking of the valves. Various products are available as preservatives. Graco offers the Pump Armor preservative.

Can the basic accessories supplied be used to spray paint?

During site visits, we regularly find that, due to a lack of knowledge about coating equipment, it is also used to spray primers or paints. This is not recommended, as it does not allow to work in a professional manner and has other disadvantages.

  • Hose – The plaster hose has an internal diameter of 13 mm, which means it can carry enough filler to the nozzle. This is ideal for applying plaster, but far too thick for painting walls or facades. For painting applications, thinner hoses with an internal diameter of 6 mm are sufficient. These hoses are more flexible, lighter and much cheaper than putty hoses. So, as well as the practical advantages and the simplification of the work, it’s also more economical to use a paint hose whenever possible.
In the case of the Mark series, it should also be borne in mind that a “funnel” effect must be applied so that the machines avoid untimely pressure return. As a result, you can connect your Graco paint dispersion kit instead of the plastering gun.
  • Hose whip – The hose whip for plastering is also much thicker than the one for painting (10 mm compared with less than 5 mm), so the arguments given for the hose are valid: lighter, more flexible to use, less expensive.
  • Gun – The plastering gun does NOT have a filter. This is not a problem when applying filler, as very large nozzles are used here, which generally prevents clogging. When spraying wall or facade paint, much smaller nozzles are used, so impurities or small lumps in the paint can quickly cause the nozzle to clog. A spray gun with a filter in the handle prevents these clogs. What’s more, paint spray guns are lighter, more ergonomic and less expensive than plaster spray guns.
  • Nozzles – The nozzles supplied in sizes 531 and 541 are ideal for plaster, but would deposit far too much paint on the surface. The result would be drips, too much mist, wasted paint and an unusable surface.
