# Tails
In the eighth part of our video series “Airless Q&A” we discuss the problem of disturbances in the spray pattern when working with Airless sprayers.
What are the causes of banding and uneven paint distribution? What can be done to avoid the formation of stripes and spray pattern “tails”? In this video we summarized these topics in detail:
What are the causes of banding and uneven color distribution?
The main causes of streaks and disturbances in the spray pattern when using Airless devices are:
- Pressure set too low
- Nozzle worn
- Material supply disrupted (eg clogged filters)
What can be done to fix these errors?
Here are some tips for removing streaks and disturbances in the spray pattern:
- Increase pressure
- Dilute the paint
- Replace worn nozzle (see Airless Q&A #6 – Worn Airless nozzles – Replace the Nozzle in Good Time)
- eliminate faults at the pump (eg clean or replace clogged filters)
If you have tried these solutions but still having issues, we have also advised our customers to ensure they choose a paint sprayer best suited to the job requirements. Some of our DIY customers are using entry level sprayers for professional / heavy duty workloads.
When already pushing the machine to its maximum, if the delivery rate is not sufficient for the material and/or job requirements, you will also possibly have irregularities in the spray pattern. Unfortunately, when this is the case, your only real solution is using another sprayer.
