What’s new in Graco Ultra XT & Mark XT airless sprayers? In 2024, Graco is making a major impact by renewing a large proportion of its ST Max, UltraMax and Mark range models. As well as a more modern design, many of the new models offer a higher flow rate, as well as a host of new technical developments concerning the engine, noise levels, pressure control and pump, for example. In today’s article, we give you a detailed overview of all the new developments coming to Graco Ultra XT and Mark XT sprayers.
New design – Graco Ultra XT & Mark XT
Graco has not only overhauled its model series from a technical point of view, but the new models in the Ultra XT series have also been given an optical makeover. The housing, LED display and, in the case of the larger models, the hose reel carriage have all been redesigned. All models, even the smallest, now come with an LED display. The ProContractor series of Ultra 695 XT, Ultra 795 XT, Ultra 1095 XT and Mark models come with puncture-free tyres.
Greater transport capacity for Graco’s new airless equipment in 2024
The new models offer more power, and the new Graco Ultra 495 XT has a maximum flow rate of 3 litres per minute. The performance limit of the previous model, the Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro, was already reached at 2.3 litres per minute. The situation is similar for other models. The Graco Ultra 695 XT pumps a maximum of 4 litres of material per minute, compared with just 3.6 litres for the previous model. Another example is the old Ultra Max II 1095, whose capacity has increased by almost 10% with the new model, from 4.5 litres to 4.9 litres.
10 x quieter – less noise on the worksite
Thanks to the new motor design, the drive noise has been considerably reduced. According to Graco, the motor is now up to 10 times quieter. We were surprised by the noise level of the new airless machines and have produced another video with a comparison test so you can get an idea. In it, we compare the noise level of the Graco Ultra 495 XT with that of its predecessor, the Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro.
New engine technology – Xtreme Torque Motor
Graco has opted for Xtreme Torque Motor Technology for its drive system. Graco has developed its own direct-drive motor for its airless machines. This motor generates around 15 times more torque than a comparable motor. One of the reasons for this power is that the motor has eight times as many magnets. This allows the drive to operate more slowly, reducing the speed of rotation by up to 90%. The result is a significant reduction in motor noise and significantly improved pressure control.
Improved pressure control – Rapid-Response Control
Improved pressure variations
The new pressure control system is called RapidResponse Control by Graco and promises significantly lower pressure variations compared to previous Graco sprayers or other models on the market. The pressure drop between dynamic pressure and spray pressure is significantly reduced, and pressure variations are also smaller. These improvements ensure a smoother flow of material and a more uniform spray pattern, resulting in a better quality surface finish. In the following video, we carried out a comparison test between a new Graco Ultra 495 XT and its predecessor, the Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro, and found significant differences in pressure control.
More precise pressure adjustment
Compared to previous models, pressure can be set much more precisely and accurately. Until now, it was often difficult to set a desired pressure of 120 bar, for example, with precision. We quickly found ourselves at 130 bar or below the desired pressure. During the test, we found that the pressure setting on the new Ultra XT models is much more precise than on previous models.
Pre-set spray programmes – Performance Modes
Ultra XT models have a choice of two spray programmes, known as performance modes. There is the low pressure mode, between 3 and 138 bar, and the high pressure mode between 34 and 227 bar, if higher pressure settings are required. The purpose of this pre-setting is to help inexperienced users work within the optimum pressure range and thus counteract negative effects such as paint misting/overspray, increased consumption, increased wear and uneven application. We’ve put together detailed information on how to set the performance modes in this video.
Lower pumps – Endurance Vortex
All Graco Ultra XT models are equipped with Endurance Vortex pumps which, according to the manufacturer, last three times longer than comparable competitor pumps. The ProContractor versions of the Ultra 695 XT, Ultra 795 XT and Ultra 1095 XT, as well as the Mark XT models, come with even higher quality pump components, which also significantly extend their service life.
The ProConnect system is now available on all models in the Graco Ultra XT and Mark XT series, making it a snap to change pumps on site.
Quick-clean function on all Graco Ultra XT models – TurboClean
Graco has a long history of quick-clean functions. But now this function has been extended to the entire XT model range. The cleaning function is now also available on smaller models such as the Ultra 490 XT and Ultra 495 XT. In addition, usability has been improved with the introduction of TurboClean. According to Graco, cleaning can now be carried out 6 times faster, using 50% less water.
Dry-running protection now available on all XT models – Watchdog
In addition, the Watchdog function to protect against the pump running dry is now available on all XT models. If the sprayer does not suck up any product, for example because the paint bucket is empty or the paint flow has been interrupted, the Watchdog function stops the pump.
