Graco is announcing the introduction of its new Ultra XT airless with the slogan “up to 10 times quieter”. So we want to know exactly what that means. In the following video blog, we’ll be listening to just how noisy the new models really are. To do this, we’ll do a test and compare the noise evolution of the previous model, the Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro, with the new Graco Ultra 495 XT.

Graco Ultra 495 XT sound volume test

In this test, we compare the sound evolution of the previous model, the Graco ST Max II 495 PC Pro, with the new Graco Ultra 495 XT. To do this, we sprayed interior wall paint at 120 bar with a Graco LP 517 nozzle and compared the sound development of the two models. During the test, we placed the microphone in the centre and at the same distance from the respective airless device in order to capture the sound as well as possible. Of course, this test is limited because we don’t have professional acoustic measurement technology at our disposal. Nevertheless, we would like to give you an initial idea of the sound emissions from the new Ultra XT series.

Conclusion on the sound evolution of the Graco Ultra XT Series

There are users for whom the volume of an airless device does not play a major role, but there are also painters who appreciate the reduction in working noise and more pleasant site acoustics. It’s easier to communicate with colleagues or simply listen to music on the radio, which makes work more enjoyable.

For these users, the Graco Ultra XT series and its reduced noise certainly offer added value. In our comparison test between the old Graco ST Max II 495 PC PRO and the new Graco Ultra 495 XT, we were able to detect a clearly perceptible difference in noise. The new Ultra 495 XT ran surprisingly quietly, with engine noise fading into the background compared with the previous model. For the user, the spraying noise that occurs when the paint comes out of the nozzle is much more noticeable than the noise of the drive motor.

During the first test with a Graco Ultra 495 XT, I was surprised by how quiet the motor ran. In our training courses on airless spraying technology, we rely on our ability to communicate well with participants in order to give advice and help, but also to answer questions. All this while the airless equipment is running. For us, this is a clear advantage that many painters and users will certainly see and hear in their daily work with airless equipment.

Why are the new Graco XT Series models quieter?

With Xtreme Torque motors, Graco has developed the first motors specifically designed for airless equipment. These motors offer 15 times more torque, enabling them to operate more slowly and at lower speeds. This means that motor speed can be reduced by up to 90%. The lower speed also minimises motor noise.
