These machines will be adapted for :

Let’s look at the devices of each brand that will often best meet these criteria.
Graco series
At Graco, the best compromise quality/price according to these needs, will be the following 2 machines, which are also the entry level of professional airless machines.
1. The Graco ULTRA MAX II 695
This Graco airless machine is available in 2 variants, namely Standard or ProContractor. It will also be the machine in this article with the lowest cost.
The Graco ULTRA MAX II 695 will be the first airless machine recommended for the above-mentioned projects in interior and exterior painting, thanks to its endurance on the job and its 3.6 litre capacity, which can accept nozzles up to 0.031″, i.e. 531 or 631.
Its mechanical construction will be identical in substance to the models of the higher ranges, thanks to its flow management, the operation of its bottom pump and the filtration up to the paint gun. Finally, this will be the last model to be released by Graco (since 2019).
The Graco ULTRA MAX II 695 will accept 4 sizes of Graco filters of #30, #60, #100 and #200 mesh (make sure you always match the filter size between the machine and the gun).
Finally, this machine will have the ProContractor generation of Graco’s ProConnect (PC) lower pump, which will allow for easier removal of this part for cleaning or repair.

2. The Graco ULTRA MAX II 795
Graco ULTRA MAX II 795 – PROCONTRACTOR
This electric airless piston pump will be slightly more powerful but just as expensive as the Graco ULTRA MAX II 695.
It will also have 2 versions available (Standard and ProContractor), as well as the ability to accept 4 primary filter sizes for better flow management (#30, #60, #100 and #200).
The Graco ULTRA MAX II 795 is the ideal airless machine for the application of dispersion and latex paints, silicate paints, adhesives in flats, blocks of flats, stairwells or basements and for facade and roof coatings, especially in the ProContractor version.
A very serious investment to start spraying airless paints for outdoor sites.

Wagner series
At Wagner, the best compromise will be between a membrane and a piston machine. These two electric machines can also be found in the brand’s professional entry-level range.
1. The Wagner SuperFinish 33 Plus
This electric membrane machine is the SuperFinish 33 Plus. Easy to use and cart mounted, it has a maximum flow rate of 4.3 l/min (max nozzle 0.033″).
Easy to repair, with a lower than average cost of parts, this one will be the trump card for airless investors starting out.
It has no electronics, but is still very versatile when you need to work with smaller quantities, thanks to its shorter hopper and hose connections. Finally, the diaphragm system is known for its advantage in reducing the quantities needed to prime the machine.
The Wagner SF 33 Plus will therefore accept a 5l or 20l hopper on top and a shorter, thinner hose (DN4 – 10m), in order to be able to work as well as possible with smaller quantities and thinner materials. It will be very easy and quick to interchange the rigid suction hose with the hopper.
Finally, a hose reel can also be fitted to the machine for more comfort with 15m of hose or more (Wagner HR30 Reel).

2. The Wagner ProSpray 3.31
The ProSpray PS 3.31 airless paint sprayer from Wagner is an electrically driven piston pump for applications up to 600 m². The airless sprayer offers a flow rate of 3.8 litres at a maximum pressure of 250 bar and is therefore particularly suitable for spraying indoor and outdoor dispersion paints for medium and large projects, e.g. in the field of home renovation.
This piston pump has a brushless motor. This Wagner airless machine can be used for spraying primers, dispersion paints, latexes, fire retardants, facade paints, roofing materials and glass cloth adhesives for example.
Finally, this machine is automatically equipped with an LED pressure dial from which you can set your spray settings.
It will accept 3 primary filter sizes for better filtration and flow management (#30, #60 & #100).

For wall dispersion mainly + roof coatings
If your present and future projects involve spraying roofs and facades with 90% of the activity, we recommend that you stick to an electric piston machine. It will very often have a more comfortable application and a slightly higher endurance.
Due to its current purchase price and its options such as the hose reel at the rear, we will have a preference for the Graco ULTRA MAX II 795 PROCONTRACTOR – 17E642.
Eletric piston pumps will be more suitable for outdoor paints due to :
- Rigid suction hose (more practical for dipping into paint cans)
- Electric piston operation (more durable over time)
- Options supplied with the machine (LED, reel, additional equipment)
- 3 filtering systems: strainer + primary filter + gun filter (up to 4 mesh sizes available)

The choice of versatility
For versatility and as mentioned in our previous blog post “Airless pumps guide #1“; we would recommend you to take an electric membrane machine. This category of airless models will have a better comfort when changing parts and accessories; moreover you will have several accessories available for small quantities (DN4 hose and hopper) and they will have as we already mentioned, the shortest priming path that it can be on a professional airless spray machine. Finally the cost of parts for repairs is often lower with diaphragm machines which also do not have electronics like piston models.
Therefore, a great asset for craftsmen, carpenters and self-employed people, for example, who need to work regularly with small pots of paint or when there are several colours to be painted indoors; but still have the possibility to paint a flat or a house indoors or outdoors.
