Painting a radiator with an Airless or HVLP gun? Which system is better for painting a radiator cleanly?

That’s the question our friend the painter Hennig Bieck asks in his video. He compares the Graco Finish Pro HVLP 9.5 and the Graco GX21.

He shows the two machines in action and comes to a conclusion about which one is best for this type of work.

The painter starts the application with the Graco GX21 by spraying a waterborne radiator paint.

To be able to spray with as little pressure as possible (100 bar), he uses a Graco FF LP low pressure nozzle.

This prevents excessive overspray.

Next, we can see how Hennig uses the Graco Finish Pro HVLP 9.5 turbine.

The unit is equipped with Smart Start, which means it turns itself off and on. The gun is set to “Fluid (varnish) 2.5”.

HVLP vs. Airless: the results

Hennig Bieck first evaluated the HVLP. For him, the advantage is the simple adjustment of the spray width, which can be done independently of a nozzle change. The same applies to the product consumption. According to him, the Graco Finish Pro HVLP 9.5 is particularly suitable for very narrow stair ramps.

But he still prefers the Graco GX 21 airless sprayer because he finds the gun much easier to handle, especially when combined with a hose whip. Plus, he can work much faster with the airless, although he stresses that the quality of the work should not suffer.
